GW's law dean Paul Schiff Berman denied the notion that the school's "Pathways to Practice" program and others like it allow law schools to "massage" employment stats reported to the American Bar Association.
University of Colorado law professor Paul Campos reported on his blog "Inside the Law School Scam" that grads in programs like "Pathways" are reported to the ABA as employed in a "full-time, long-term position."
But Schiff Berman told Business Insider schools have to notify the ABA specifically if their graduates are employed in university-funded programs.
"Nobody is hiding anything," Schiff Berman said.
A GW email gaffe last week revealed 114 recent grads ? 21 percent of the graduating class ? received a $15-an-hour stipend from GW to do volunteer work in the legal sector.
"The reason to do a program like this is to help students get actual jobs in the real world," said Schiff Berman, who called "Pathways" the most generous program of its kind in the nation.
Schiff Berman got some bad press over the summer when he said he was cutting the stipend to $10 an hour. He changed his mind almost immediately.
