How many times after buying a trip have you forgotten insurance or said ?who needs it?? We?re definitely going to (fill in the destination).?? Or, ?we don?t need insurance for our air tickets.?? Quite the contrary, especially if the air ticket is non-refundable, insurance is highly recommended.
As professional travel consultants, we not only try to plan a seamless vacation, we also try to protect our clients from the unexpected.
I?m sure many of us could recount personal experiences of travelers making the case that ?the cost is too great?, or ?we have other insurance.?? Making our older clients aware that Medicare does not cover them overseas is an eye opener for many people.? Reminding them that the insurance is not only for their trip, but for pre- and post-travel as well.??? Letting them know about baggage coverage, delay, trip interruption and trip cancellation is only part of the argument.? What if the unthinkable happens and they become sick overseas?? The right insurance can cover that contingency, too.
An excellent selling point is that many policies allow a 10-day grace period after the insurance is purchased for clients to read over the policy and decide whether or not they want it.? If they don?t, they get their premium back!
I usually tell clients who are on the fence about purchasing insurance about my personal experience several years ago while planning a cruise up the coast of Norway.? My husband, at the time a non-cancellation trip insurance believer, didn?t think we needed insurance.? I purchased it anyway, wanting to protect the ?what if? of our trip.
A few days before the cruise ended, I became seriously ill, wound up in the hospital in Bergen, Norway, and had emergency surgery.? I had to be in the hospital for 10 days.? The insurance company called my husband daily to inquire about my welfare.? When it came time to pay the bill, the hospital faxed the invoice and the insurance company paid in full!? They even purchased Business Class air to fly us back home.? My story had a happy ending.? As you can imagine, my husband is now a believer in cancellation/interruption insurance!
There is nothing more reassuring than knowing you?re not alone and helpless when you?re not feeling well.? When you taken trip insurance, you have someone to back you up and make sure you return home safely!
Travel consultants making experienced suggestions are the first line of defense for clients planning a trip.? When they suggest insurance, wise clients listen.? They will wind up traveling safely and with peace of mind!
None of us plan to cancel that carefully planned and much anticipated trip.?? Insurance is the arrangement we help our clients make for the unexpected.
