Video: High stakes summit for US, Israel

>>> the "news nation" is following developing news over israel 's nuclear stand off with iran . right now president obama and prime minister benjamin netanyahu are in closed doors. both leaders are appearing unified.

>> even as we will continue on the diplomatic front, we will continue to fighten pressure when it comes to sanctions. i reserve all options.

>> i rsrael must have the ability to defend itself, by itself against any threat. when it comes to israel 's security, israel has the right, the right to make its own decision. s

>> let's bring in correspondent, mark. as we wait to hear reaction, the reality here is you've got headlines talking about these two men having not the best relationship, but they know this is high stakes and they both cannot come up short here.

>> yeah, that's right. you saw both of them try very hard in their remarks before the meeting to say that israel and the united states are standing shoulder to shoulder with president obama saying that the u.s. is committed to defending israel . also importantly for prime minister netanyahu that the u.s. recognizes that israel has a right to defend itself. that's the piece of president obama speech that prime minister netanyahu zeroed in on. the reason he did that is because israelis want a signal from the united states that if they judge it's important to carry out a military strike on i ran that the u.s. won't stand in the way. they will allow israel to take the steps it deems necessary. that will be a large part of the substance of the conversation between the two men.

>> let me play a bit of what the president said this weekend.

>> already there's too much loose talk of war. over the last few weeks such talk has only benefitted iranian government . now is not the time for bluster. now is the time to let our increased pressure sink in and to sustain the brood international coalition we have built.

>> mark, let me ask you, the president is looking at this globally. we're talking about even the price of oil being filtered into this conversation while obviously, and i believe you mentioned this as well, israel is looking at its safety in this region. how do those differing goals, if they're different at this point affect the conversations today?

>> israel and the u.s. approach iran from what different perspective. while both countries don't iran to get a nuclear weapon , israel believes it faces a much more immediate threat and the israelis have judged they feel like they have less time to make a decision about when to go ahead with the military strike . president obama , as he said in that excerpt has spent a lot of time marshaling economic sanction , building up support around the world, and he believes there's enough time in space to let the sanctions bite and to sfee they force the iran iranian regime to change course. they could find themselves in the position where the iranians are in position of nuclear weapons which they have threatened to use already against israel .

>> all right. thank you. we know that the gop candidates will address apec on tuesday. we know this filters into presidential politics as well. thank you.

>>> coming up, in a head
